Custom Summer T-Shirt Project

Summer SVG Collection on Oladino

A custom t-shirt is a summer essential that lets you express your personality while staying cool. Whether you’re going for a fun beach slogan, a tropical design, or a personalized message, creating your own t-shirt is easier than you might think!

Materials You’ll Need:

  • A plain t-shirt (cotton or cotton blend works best)
  • Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) in your choice of colors
  • Cutting machine (Cricut, Silhouette, etc.)
  • Weeding tools
  • Heat press, EasyPress, or household iron
  • Teflon sheet or parchment paper
  • Summer-themed SVG file from Oladino.com

For this tutorial, we’ll be using our popular “Summer Vibes Tropical Plants SVG” which includes beautiful tropical designs perfect for your summer t-shirt!

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare Your Design

Download and extract your Summer SVG file from Oladino. Open your cutting machine’s software (like Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio) and import the SVG file.

Resize your design to fit your t-shirt (typically 10-12 inches wide for adult shirts). For multi-colored designs, separate and arrange the layers.

Step 2: Cut Your Design

Select “Mirror” in your cutting software (this is crucial for heat transfer vinyl). Place your HTV on the cutting mat with the shiny/carrier side down.

Send to your cutting machine and let it work its magic. For multi-colored designs, cut each color separately.

Step 3: Weed Your Design

Use your weeding tools to carefully remove the excess vinyl around your design. Take your time with intricate details.

Pro tip: For complex designs, use a light pad underneath to make the cut lines more visible.

Step 4: Position and Press

Preheat your t-shirt by pressing it for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.

Position your design on the t-shirt. If you have multiple layers, start with the bottom layer.

Cover with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper and press according to your vinyl’s instructions (typically 315°F/160°C for 15 seconds).

For layered designs, repeat this process for each layer, allowing a quick cool down between layers.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Let your design cool completely (about 30 seconds to 1 minute).

Carefully peel off the carrier sheet. If the vinyl starts lifting, press again for a few more seconds.

For best results, turn the shirt inside out before washing and avoid using fabric softener.

Pro Tips:

  • Pre-wash your t-shirt before applying the design to prevent shrinkage later.
  • Use a ruler and T-square to ensure your design is straight and properly centered.
  • When working with detailed designs, increase the pressure slightly on your cutting machine.
  • Wait 24 hours before washing your finished shirt.

Beach-Ready Tote Bag Project

Custom Tote Bag with SVG Design

A custom tote bag is perfect for carrying your beach essentials, picnic supplies, or shopping items during your summer adventures. With an SVG design, you can create a bag that’s not only functional but also reflects your personal style!

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Plain canvas tote bag (natural or colored)
  • Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) or permanent adhesive vinyl
  • Cutting machine (Cricut, Silhouette, etc.)
  • Weeding tools
  • Heat press, EasyPress, or household iron (for HTV)
  • Transfer tape (for adhesive vinyl)
  • Teflon sheet or parchment paper (for HTV)
  • Beach-themed SVG file from Oladino.com

Featured SVG: Beach Babe SVG

For this tote bag project, we recommend using our “Beach Babe SVG” which features a fun sun design perfect for your beach tote!

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare Your Tote Bag

Iron your tote bag to remove any wrinkles. This ensures a smooth surface for your design.

If using a new bag, consider washing it first to prevent shrinkage later (make sure it’s completely dry before applying vinyl).

Step 2: Prepare Your Design

Download and extract your Beach SVG file from Oladino. Open your cutting machine’s software and import the SVG.

Resize your design to fit your tote bag (typically 8-10 inches for standard totes). For multi-colored designs, arrange the layers accordingly.

Step 3: Cut Your Design

For HTV: Select “Mirror” in your cutting software. Place your HTV on the cutting mat with the shiny/carrier side down.

For adhesive vinyl: No need to mirror. Place vinyl on the cutting mat with the colored side up.

Send to your cutting machine and cut your design.

Step 4: Weed Your Design

Carefully remove the excess vinyl around your design using your weeding tools.

Pay special attention to small details and inner pieces (like the centers of letters).

Step 5: Apply Your Design

For Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV):

  • Position your design on the tote bag with the carrier sheet facing up.
  • Cover with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper.
  • Press with medium-firm pressure at 315°F/160°C for 15-20 seconds (canvas may need slightly longer than t-shirts).
  • Let cool for a few seconds, then peel off the carrier sheet.

For Adhesive Vinyl:

  • Apply transfer tape over your weeded design, burnish well.
  • Peel the transfer tape up, bringing the vinyl design with it.
  • Position on your tote bag and burnish again firmly.
  • Carefully peel away the transfer tape, leaving your design on the bag.

Pro Tips:

  • Insert a piece of cardboard inside the tote bag to prevent the heat or adhesive from affecting the back side.
  • For canvas totes, HTV generally provides better durability than adhesive vinyl.
  • Consider adding a personalized name or monogram to make your tote even more unique.
  • To make your tote bag water-resistant, spray with a fabric protector after your design is applied and fully cured.

3

Summer Tumbler Cup Project

A personalized tumbler is essential for staying hydrated during those hot summer days. Whether you’re at the beach, hiking, or just lounging by the pool, a custom tumbler with your favorite design adds a personal touch to your summer refreshments!

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Stainless steel or plastic tumbler (preferably with a smooth surface)
  • Permanent adhesive vinyl in your choice of colors
  • Cutting machine (Cricut, Silhouette, etc.)
  • Weeding tools
  • Transfer tape
  • Scraper tool or credit card
  • Rubbing alcohol and lint-free cloth
  • Clear waterproof sealer (optional for added durability)
  • Summer-themed SVG file from Oladino.com

Featured SVG: Here Comes The Sun SVG

For this tumbler project, we recommend using our “Here Comes The Sun SVG Digital File” which features a retro summer design perfect for your tumbler!

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare Your Tumbler

Clean your tumbler thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth to remove any oils, fingerprints, or residue. This ensures proper adhesion of your vinyl.

Let the tumbler dry completely before applying vinyl.

Step 2: Prepare Your Design

Download and extract your Summer SVG file from Oladino. Open your cutting machine’s software and import the SVG.

Measure the height and circumference of your tumbler to determine the size of your design. For a standard 20oz tumbler, aim for a design around 3-4 inches tall.

For designs that wrap around the tumbler, you may need to create a template based on the tumbler’s circumference.

Step 3: Cut Your Design

Set your cutting machine to the appropriate settings for permanent vinyl (no need to mirror the design).

Place the vinyl on your cutting mat with the colored side facing up.

Send to your cutting machine and let it cut your design.

Step 4: Weed Your Design

Carefully remove the excess vinyl around your design using weeding tools.

Take extra care with small details and intricate parts of the design.

Step 5: Transfer Your Design

Apply transfer tape over your weeded design and burnish well using a scraper tool or credit card.

Slowly peel back the transfer tape at a 45-degree angle, ensuring the vinyl comes up with the tape.

Position your design on the tumbler. For wrapping designs, start from one edge and gradually wrap around.

Use a ruler or measuring tape to ensure your design is straight and properly aligned.

Step 6: Apply Your Design

Once positioned correctly, firmly burnish the design onto the tumbler, working from the center outward to remove any air bubbles.

Slowly peel away the transfer tape at a 45-degree angle. If parts of the design begin to lift, press the transfer tape back down and burnish again.

For curved surfaces, you may need to make small relief cuts in the transfer tape (not the design) to help it conform better.

Step 7: Seal Your Design (Optional)

For added durability, especially if the tumbler will be hand-washed frequently, apply a clear waterproof sealer over the design.

Apply thin, even coats according to the sealer’s instructions, allowing proper drying time between coats.

Let the sealer cure completely (usually 24-48 hours) before using the tumbler.

Pro Tips:

  • For tumblers with a tapered shape, consider cutting your design in sections to make application easier.
  • Use a hair dryer on low heat to warm the vinyl slightly if you’re having trouble getting it to conform to curved surfaces.
  • For dishwasher safety, look for vinyl specifically labeled as dishwasher-safe or hand wash your tumbler to preserve the design.
  • Wait at least 24 hours after application before using your tumbler to ensure proper adhesion.
